Why Social Health Wins at Work

Social Health is now considered an emerging global health issue and is believed to be fundamental to quality and longevity of life.

But what exactly is social health?

It’s all about how we relate to each other but in the workplace specifically;
🤝 It’s the quality of our work relationships
💝It’s how safe and supported we feel
⚽It’s how willing we are to collaborate and communicate openly.

It’s not just good for culture – it’s crucial for long-term business success and growth!
Work is about more than just deadlines and deliverables. It’s also about connection and connection in the workplace isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s a game-changer for performance.

Kasley Killam, a social health expert and author of The Art and Science of Connection, puts it perfectly: “In Business, connection is not a nice to have, it’s essential. Connected Employees are more engaged, have a higher performance rating and are more productive”

Here’s the surprising thing though – some of the strongest team connections aren’t built in the office. They happen offsite — at away days, at sales kick offs, at conferences or even just casual team dinners. These types of settings lower stress and shift the dynamic in a way that builds real trust and openness.

Shared experiences and human connection, especially the fun or unique ones such as travel, team building and dinners — help release dopamine and oxytocin (which play crucial roles in social behaviour, bonding, and motivation). Suddenly, your co-worker shifts from a colleague to a trusted ally or even a friend.

Recently, we hosted our own all-agency offsite. We presented roadmaps, celebrated wins but more importantly openly discussed opportunities and improvements as a team.  We quite literally and figuratively were building bridges (some better than others 🤐 ) and enabling the kind of social health necessary to increase creativity.

So, how can you achieve this?
⚡️ Don’t underestimate the power of getting everyone in the same room, away from the usual routine.
⛳️ Offsites aren’t just a perk — they’re a smart investment in your team’s social health.

Teams with better social health? They win!
