Pluto transformed the RDS Simmonscourt into a Tokyo playground for Google’s staff party aptly named Banzai – A Japanese exclamation essentially meaning ten thousand years of long life.
Banzai encapsulated the complete Tokyo after-dark experience. Space was divided into neighbourhoods; Shinjuku Station, Roppongi, Akihabara, The Mario Kart Track, The Zen Garden, Takeshi’s Castle and Harajuku. Each neighbourhood offered diverse activities that paid accurate homage to their origins.
Shinjuku Station acted as the entrance piece fitted with a custom-built train carriage that functioned as the cloakroom. Roppongi featured the gigantic circular bar which was surrounded by a streetscape of neon signs and food carts. For the more active guests – they could race each other on the life-size Mario Kart or test their athleticism in Takeshi’s Castle. On the opposite end, guests had the opportunity to escape the madness and relax over some tea and try their hand at origami in the Zen Garden.
The event had something for everyone and allowed a real sense of escapism to be achieved.
